Message from the Head of Department

Associate Prof. Suman Kharel, PhD

Welcome to the Central Department of Rural Development at Tribhuvan University. It is an honor to lead a department deeply rooted in the pursuit of academic excellence, critical inquiry, and transformative education aimed at building inclusive and resilient rural societies in Nepal and beyond.

Under my leadership, we are prioritizing the growth of our research culture-empowering faculty and students to undertake rigorous, policy-relevant studies that contribute to evidence-based rural development. Our goal is not just to generate knowledge but to ensure it creates tangible impact across communities and institutions.

We are currently envisioning the launch of the Development Talk Series, an interactive forum that will bring together academics, practitioners, and policymakers to exchange ideas and develop innovative solutions for sustainable development. Additionally, we are actively expanding partnerships with both national and international institutions to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge sharing.

I warmly invite students, researchers, and development professionals to join us as we work toward creating empowered and equitable societies through education, research, collective action, and collaboration.
