The PhD in Rural Development is largely for students with a background in one or more of the social sciences, although many students have had degrees in disciplines ranging from the humanities to the natural sciences. The academic backgrounds of the current intake, for example, include Rural Development, Anthropology, Development Studies, Economics, Engineering, Geography, Mathematics, Political Science, Sociology, and Statistics. The normal requirement for admission is the equivalent of at least a second division in Master’s degrees (3.0 in GPA) and completed MPhil program with at least point 3.0 GPA.

The normal requirement for admission is the equivalent of at least a second division in Master’s degrees (Point 3.0 in GPA)
The students having passed a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline (preferably Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences) are eligible for enrollment. Rural Development is a multidisciplinary course for higher education. Students with the academic qualification beyond the Bachelor’s Degree who are interested in pursuing a new career in a new field are also considered for admission. New students are accepted into the MA program on the basis of merit. The department accepts 100 students annually.
